My everyday makeup got shorter every year, and it looks better now than when it took half an hour.
What's left is five things. A base, an eye, a cheek, a tint, a gloss. In that order, tapped on with fingers, and the whole thing takes about five minutes because none of it needs to be precise.
One product per step, in the order they go on.
1 · Base: dewy, and not much of it
A cushion is the right amount of base for a normal day. Light coverage, evens out tone, still looks like skin rather than a layer over skin.
I used to build foundation until there was no texture left, then wonder why my face looked flat in photos. Thin is the whole point.
How much: Two or three taps of the puff, pressed on where you actually have redness, then blended outward with nothing added. Leave the edges of your face nearly bare.

2 · Eyes: one palette, two fingers
Twelve peachy neutrals and one coral shimmer, which sounds like a lot until you realise you only ever use two of them on a weekday.
No brush. A matte all over the lid, something deeper pressed into the outer corner, and that's the eye done.
The shortcut: If you have ten extra seconds, tap the shimmer onto the centre of the lid only. It catches light and makes the eye look more open without looking like eyeshadow.
Shop now →3 · Cheek: cream, and high up
Cream cheek over a dewy base blends into skin in a way powder can't. It looks like your face is doing it rather than like blush.
High on the cheekbone and out toward the temple. Low blush makes a face look heavy, which took me far too long to work out.
Fingertip only: Warm a little on your finger first, tap it on in two or three spots, then blend with whatever is left on your fingers. Adding more is easy; taking it off means redoing the base.
Shop now →4 · Lip colour: tint, patted in
This is the step people skip, and it's the one doing the work. A glass tint stains colour into the lip, so when the shine wears off you still have softly flushed lips instead of a ring around the outside.
I put gloss on bare lips for years and could never work out where my lip had gone by 8pm.
How to apply it: Fingertip, pat it into the middle of the lip, press your lips together to spread it out. Keep the edges soft rather than lining them properly.

The gloss goes on top of the tint, in the middle of the lip and nowhere near the corners. That bright spot in the centre is what makes a lip look full in photos.
Gloss edge to edge flattens it and slides off within the hour. Learned that at a wedding.
Reapplying: One dab top and bottom, press together. When it wears off just redo the centre, you don't need to start the lip again.
