SKIN1004, Decoded: The Madagascar Centella Lineup
My sister's bathroom shelf is turning into a SKIN1004 store. Every time I visit there's a new bottle with "Madagascar Centella" on it, and every time I ask what this one does, she gives me a slightly different answer.
So I sat down and sorted it out. SKIN1004 started with one calming ampoule and has since spun out a whole Madagascar Centella lineup: Hyalu-Cica, Teca, Probio-Cica and a few odd ones. Here's how the newer pieces differ, and which one I'd actually grab first.
Where it started
The brand's whole identity rests on Centella Asiatica from Madagascar, a region prized for how much of the active compounds its centella carries. The SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule (100ml) is the product that put them on the map.
It's lightweight, a touch sticky for a second and then gone, and it's calming in a quiet way. The 100ml bottle is the sensible size if it becomes your daily step. Everything below builds on this idea.
Blue, and not just the bottle
The Hyalu-Cica Blue Serum is the brightening branch of the family. It's a light gel with five layers of hyaluronic acid, plus niacinamide and adenosine for brightness and firmness, and ivy leaf extract for dull days. A ceramide biome keeps the hydration near the surface.
My sister uses it every morning. I borrowed it for a week and now understand why.
The bouncy one
If the Blue Serum is about brightness, the Hyalu-Teca Plumping Ampoule is about bounce. It's built around SKIN1004's Hyalu-Teca complex, with peptides for elasticity, polyglutamic acid and ceramide for moisture, and glutathione in the mix.
Press it in with your palms, then moisturizer on top. It's the one I reach for when my skin looks flat after a bad night's sleep.
Fermented, and a big bottle of it
The Probio-Cica Intensive Ampoule uses fermented Madagascar centella and TECA, and it's the barrier-minded one: ceramide NP, phytosterol and fatty acids to hold moisture in.
Drop it on, pat, done. The finish is silky with a bit of shine. At 95ml it lasts ages, which suits me since I'm lazy about reordering.
Toner you can layer (a lot)
The Teca Soothing Toner is watery and absorbs fast, with gentle exfoliating care to smooth texture and help whatever comes next sink in.
The tip on the box is to layer it in small amounts, up to seven times, when skin feels tight. I did four after a windy walk with the dog and that was plenty.
Two creams, two moods
The Teca Cream is a fresh, watery gel cream for skin that runs warm and a bit red. It's meant to comfort that look, support the barrier, and leave you hydrated without a shiny surface.
It goes on at the very end and stays comfortable. I like it on nights when my cheeks are flushed after a too-hot shower.
The oily-skin pick
The other cream is the Poremizing Light Gel Cream, which is lighter still. It has Himalayan pink salt, aloe vera for a fresh feel and niacinamide for texture and pores. No stickiness. Combination and oily skin will probably prefer this one over the Teca Cream, especially in summer.
Small, but I'm never without them
The SKIN1004 Spot Cover Patch is the oddball. Thin, semi-transparent hydrocolloid patches for a breakout, water-resistant, and you can put makeup over them.
Stick one on clean, dry skin and press for a couple of seconds. Swap it every six to eight hours or when it turns white and puffy, and don't keep the same one on past a day.
If you only buy one thing, the original ampoule is still a safe start, and then add whichever of the newer bottles matches what your skin is doing. The full range lives in the SKIN1004 collection. My sister has already asked me to stop borrowing hers.
FAQ
The Madagascar Centella Ampoule (available in 100ml or 55ml) is the brand's hero and the best entry point for most skin types, especially redness-prone or sensitized skin.
Yes, they're designed to layer. Apply the Ampoule first to treat and calm, then follow with the Enrich Cream to seal in hydration, especially useful for dry or combination-dry skin.
The Madagascar Centella Retinol 0.2 Boosting Shot Ampoule uses a low 0.2% dose cushioned by Centella, making it more beginner-friendly than most retinol serums, but you should still patch test and introduce it gradually at night.
Both use the same calming Centella-probiotic formula, but the Essence Toner is poured and patted in as part of a full routine, while the Quick Calming Pad is a pre-soaked, swipe-and-go format better suited for travel or quick resets.
They target different needs. The Bakuchiol Eye Cream is formulated specifically for the thinner, more sensitive eye area, while the retinol shot is meant for the rest of the face. Many people use both, applying the eye cream first.
