Body Lotion by Concern: Korean Picks for Dullness, Bumps, Dark Knees and Scent
My body lotion shelf used to be one big bottle of whatever was on sale. Then I noticed I was trying to fix three different things with it: my legs looked kind of grey by the end of summer, the backs of my arms were rough, and my knees were darker than the rest of me. One plain lotion was never going to handle all of that.
So this isn't another dry-skin list. It's a Korean body lotion for each concern, the way you'd pick a serum for your face, plus two I buy mostly because I like smelling them on my scarf.
My legs looked tired, so I started here
For general dullness, APLB Glutathione Niacinamide Body Lotion is the one I'd grab first. It has glutathione and niacinamide with vitamin C for glow, plus hyaluronic acid and beta glucan so it isn't just a brightening formula that leaves you dry.
There's also a centella complex and eggplant extract in there for sensitive skin, which matters to me because I shave my legs and it stings with some lotions. It's a big 300ml pump bottle, so I use it like a normal everyday lotion, all over, after the shower.
For knees, elbows and that one patch on my shin
Same brand, different job. APLB Tranexamic Acid Niacinamide Body Lotion is the one I keep for uneven spots. Tranexamic acid is there to help skin tone look more even and clear, and niacinamide works on texture and hydration.
I don't bother putting it everywhere. I do knees, elbows, and an old mark on my shin from walking into a coffee table, and the glutathione one goes on the rest. Two pumps, done, and I'm not wasting the targeted one on my calves.
Bumpy arms are a texture thing, not a dryness thing
This took me way too long to figure out. I kept slathering rich cream on the backs of my arms and they stayed rough, because the bumps are more about buildup than lack of moisture. What helped was switching to something with gentle acids and using it on slightly damp skin, consistently, not just when I remembered before a sleeveless day.
The one for strawberry arms
By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Body Lotion is basically a face treatment for your body. It has 0.1% bakuchiol, AHA and BHA, vitamin A (retinal is in the ingredient list), and urea to soften dead skin buildup.
The texture is light and doesn't get sticky, so I put it on the backs of my arms and thighs after the shower and can pull on pajamas right away. Because it exfoliates, I wear sunscreen on my arms if they're going to be out, and I don't layer it with a body scrub on the same night.
When my skin is reacting to everything
Some weeks the acids and actives are just too much, usually when the radiator in my apartment kicks on and everything gets itchy. That's when I go back to ATOPALM MLE Lotion. It's a light lotion for sensitive skin with safflower oil and hyaluronic acid, and it's free from 10 additives the brand calls out.
It's technically made for face and neck too, which tells you how gentle it's meant to be. I use it on my body on rest days and anywhere I just shaved.
Okay, this one is purely for the smell
My sister borrowed HUXLEY Body Lotion Moroccan Gardener once and never gave it back, so I bought another. The scent is the whole reason, but it does real work too: prickly pear oil for the moisture barrier, olive oil for extra hydration, sage leaf extract to soothe, and black currant seed oil for flaky spots.
Put it on while your skin is still damp. If you want it to last longer, the brand suggests their body oil on top.
A woody one for colder days
If floral isn't your thing, Hersteller Nearby Body Lotion Desert Wood is warmer and cozier. I wear it on long train rides home in October because it feels like a sweater.
It's built around a vegan butter complex and eco ceramide, with a grain complex for calming, and the brand says it's made for all skin types, especially rough and dry skin. I put it on my shins and elbows, which are always the driest parts.
You don't need all of these. Pick the one that matches what's bugging you most, and if you want a second, make it the scented one so you actually look forward to using it. Everything else is in our body moisturizers collection.
FAQ
The ones here are made for daily, all-over use. Apply after showering, massage in, and give it a few weeks before judging, since body skin is slower to show a change than your face.
Look for a lotion with gentle exfoliating acids like AHA and BHA plus urea, which softens buildup. Use it on slightly damp skin and be consistent. If you use an exfoliating or vitamin A lotion, wear sunscreen on any skin that sees the sun.
Some people are fine with fragrance and some aren't. If your skin reacts easily, keep scented lotions for places like arms and shoulders, and use a fragrance-light lotion made for sensitive skin everywhere else.
Yes. A lot of people use a treatment lotion on one area, like the backs of the arms or the knees, and a plain or scented lotion on the rest of the body.
